Mozilla has officially announced its new family of logos for the Firefox family of products and services. For the first time in the brands history they have incorporated a parent logo for the brand. The official announcement comes just over a year after Firefox started asking its users to help choose a direction to take the design.

Mozilla have said “Now Firefox has a new look to support its evolving product line. Today we’re introducing the Firefox parent brand — an icon representing the entire family of products. When you see it, it’s your invitation to join Firefox and gain access to everything we have to offer. That includes the famous Firefox Browser icon  for desktop and mobile, and even that icon is getting an update to be rolled out this fall.”

Whats in the new Firefox Brand Identity.

The update to the branding contains more than just new logos. The Firefox rebrand has redesigned with the future in mind. They have included a huge extension to the colour palette, which they say “expands the range of possibilities and makes distinctive gradients possible.

A new geometric shape system that has been derived from the geometry of the product logos. These shapes have been designed in a way that they can be incorporated into background patters, spot illustrations, motion graphics and pictograms.

An exciting refresh to the typeface to tie it in with the new rounded icons.

Meaning behind the design.

Firefox have taken a massive move to make privacy one of their key brand experiences. They want users to feel safe and secure while using their products. They want to promote the new branding on Trust. Mozilla have said “Unlike Big Tech companies that claim to offer privacy but still use you and your data, with us you know where you stand. Everything Firefox is backed by our Personal Data Promise: Take Less, Keep It Safe, No Secrets.”

Final Thoughts.

The new Firefox logo and family of service logos have been a long anticipated since their announcement. The friendly nature of the rebrand focusing on trust and privacy helps the brand fit into a modern GDPR world. Personally I feel the new identity is great step for Firefox and the comprehensive system they have set out for the brand based on their four pillars to take the brand into the future. I can’t wait to see the brand take shape across the platform and services over the coming months. As the brand takes shape I’ll build upon this post a little more based on the final applications. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the initial announcement.
